Understanding a beginner-to-competitive pathway

Player development involves different stages, and moving between them should reflect the player’s learning. A pathway gives the coach and player a common way to discuss the next step.

Make it practical.

At GBA, the supplied academy proposal describes beginner, intermediate, advanced and competitive levels. Ask your coach what your present group is working on and how readiness for another level is assessed. Progress need not look identical for every player.

Your session checklist

  • Understand your current training focus.
  • Ask how progress is reviewed.
  • Discuss competition opportunities with your coach.

A useful next step

Treat a level change as part of a coaching conversation, not a deadline to race towards.
